FYI................

Mound Cemetery, designed to help you find gravesites quickly and confidently.

Search by name or gravesite ID, and the map will take you right to the location. You can also view burial details and explore cemetery information — all from your phone or computer.

For cemeteries of this size, having a reliable way to navigate matters.

Gravesite locations are approximate.

Did You Know ???

Ruby-throated hummingbirds are already crossing the Gulf of Mexico right now. Thousands of them — each weighing less than a nickel — flying 500 miles nonstop over open water to reach the southern US.

By mid-March, they'll spread across the Southeast. By May, they'll reach the Canadian border. And most of them will remember exactly which feeders were out last year.

Here's what matters: put your feeder out two weeks BEFORE your zone's expected arrival date. Early scouts are the hungriest and the most likely to establish your yard as a stop. Plain white sugar water — one part sugar, four parts water. No red dye. No honey. No artificial sweetener. Change it every 3 to 5 days, more often in heat.

Even better than a feeder: plant native trumpet-shaped flowers. Coral honeysuckle, bee balm, cardinal flower. These provide nectar AND the tiny insects hummingbirds actually need for protein. A feeder supplements. A garden sustains.

Your zone is on the map. The birds are already in the air.

Point to Ponder..............

AMEN...........

The founders of the Racine Rotary Club included W. R. Gittings, A.J. Horlick, H.F. Johnson, W.H. Walker, and G.H. Wheary.  Those of you who have been keeping up with #250forthe250th will recognize those names! Racine's rotary club eventually outgrew what it could handle in terms of membership so in 1968 a second club was established; Rotary Club of West Racine (Rotary West).  To avoid conflict, members of the West club were required to live or work west of the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad Tracks.  In recent years, membership declined to the point where Rotary West dissolved in 2011 leaving Racine with only one Rotary Club once again.

Trip Down Memory Lane............The Good Old Days

THE MANY WELLS BROS. BUSINESSES

Years ago, the name "Wells Bros." was a name for a variety of businesses which were located on Racine's Southside.  Today, when we think of Wells Bros., we think of great Italian food. However, it wasn't that long ago that we would have had to be more specific! Besides the restaurant, there was also a Wells Bros. barber shop, food store, and even a shoe store! Today, only the restaurant remains. However, the grocery store is still there, but not owned by the Wells family anymore. The former shoe store has been demolished, and the old barber shop now sits empty, I believe.   Wells Bros. pizza, anyone?
