FYI................
More road construction starting.
Part of Project Do-It-Again, sewer work to start on Durand Avenue between Ohio and Taylor.
We're not sure who is over-consuming the cheese or other dairy, but this is getting out of control.
To lighten the load on all, Food trucks will line the median on Thursday's.
Stop out, grab a bite to eat and get a first hand look at construction progress

Did You Know ???
Lots of talented people have come from Racine. Lane Brody, aka Lynn Voorles, is a Horlick High grad, class of 1969. She had a passion for music as a child and started writing songs when she was twelve. Her pursuit of a music career took her all the way to the top of the charts. In 1977 her song 'You're Gonna Make Love To Me' was a hit. Her song, 'Over You' was nominated for an Oscar in 1984 and She and Johnny Lee were No. 1 on the Country Music charts with 'The Yellow Rose'. Brody's career expanded to include television with appearances on Taxi and Heart of the City.

Point to Ponder..............

AMEN...........
Dr Robert Jaklich '76 was recently honored at one of the HS he oversees by the staff and graduation class with a commemorative banner. He is serving as interim superintend for the one of the seven district in San Antonio. He balanced the districts recent $300,000 budget deficit.

Trip Down Memory Lane............The Good Old Days
Alfonso Iannelli was an Italian immigrant who came to America in 1898. Here he began to pursue his love of several different forms of art; design, sculpture, jewelry craft, and architecture. He began to make a name for himself and Frank Lloyd Wright took notice. Wright invited Iannelli to collaborate on a project but the relationship soured after Wright took credit for Iannelli's sculpture designs. Iannelli did maintain a working relationship with a draftsmen in Wrights studio by the name of Barry Byrne. Byrne went on to design St. Patrick's Church in 1924 and engaged Iannelli to design the stained glass windows. Iannelli later went on to design consumer products for several home appliance companies, including Oster.

One of Racine's last "streetcars" is seen here heading south along the 700 block of Wisconsin Ave. around 1940 or so.
This car, with the route sign of "23rd St." will end its journey at the "Case South Works" plant at 23rd St. and Mead St.
The building in the background was the Rapid Transit building that was a terminal for the interurban rail lines and bus services between Milwaukee and Kenosha.
Some years later, it was a franchise store for Firestone with auto services and appliance sales.
That entire block was purchased by the County of Racine in the 1970's for the construction of the Racine County Law Enforcement Center

LAUGH FOR THE DAY...............
A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot. The young family's 4-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.Eventually the construction crew, all of them "gems-in-the-rough," more or less adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important. At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope containing ten dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she take her 10 dollars "pay" she'd received to the bank the next day to start a savings account. When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed & asked the little girl how she had come by her very own paycheck at such a young age.The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us.""Oh my goodness" said the teller, "and will you be working on the house again this week, too?"The little girl replied, "I will, if those jackasses at Home Depot ever deliver the damn drywall." |
